Feb-21-1978 Search For Missing Student Stephen Kubacki
February-21-1978 Stephen Kubacki's abandoned skis and his backpack were found by a group of snow mobilers. Stephen (23) was a college student, set to graduate that same year when he decided to go for a cross-country ski arounf the Saugatuck area and was expected to be gone for a couple of days. The skis were found at the edge of Lake Michigan and the footprints that could be seen in the snow stopped abruptly, it was believed that Kubacki had fallen into the lake and his body would float to the surface as it began to thaw.
Stephen was born into a working class family, his father worked at a local factory and his mother worked as a secretary. He gradated from Deerfield Academy as a day student. He went on to study a major in German, after swapping his choice a handful of times. He wrote for the college newspaper and he is described as being free spirited with a keen interest in Dungeons And Dragons.
While the majority of people who knew Stephen started setting about adjusting to life without him, one person did not give up hope of finding him, his mother. She hired a private investigator to look into the disappearance of her son.
On May 5th of 1979 Stephen Kubacki woke up lying in a field in Pittsfield, Massachuusetts, a whopping 700 miles east from where he is believed to last been skiing. He recognised some of the area and made his way to his aunt's house, which was 20 miles away from Pittsfield. We can only imagine the shock she got that morning as her nephew who had been missing for almost 15 months walked through her door.
Stephen's reappearance sparked many questions and interest. He was wearing clothes that did not belong to him,he had a backpack full of maps that he did not recognise as his own, he had a t-shirt from the Wisconsin marathon, new trainers, new glasses and when questioned he claims that he felt like he had been doing a lot of running.
Stephen Kubacki has repeated that he was in a sane state of mind when he set out on his skiing trip and the last thing he can recall from that day was feeling cold and the darkness surrounding him. He also claims that he was in a sane state of mind when he returned.
How is it possible that he disappeared, without a trace, from the side of the lake?
Where was he for almost 15 months?
The Lake Michigan Triangle has been linked to many UFO sightings, people have asked, was he maybe abducted by aliens?

Did he suffer a mental break and just need that time away from life to gather his thoughts and have no responsibilities?
Stephen's reluctance to take to media or give interviews only led to the growing mystery surrounding the case.
