On the 28th of February 1995 Denver International Airport officially opened but before it had even opened it's doors, speculation grew and conspiracy theories started to spread. The airport was was completed after, several delays, 16 months behind schedule and a whopping $2 billion over the original $2.9 billion budget.
Blue Mustang
Arriving to the airport you will be greeted by a blue mustang horse made of fibreglass, standing at over 30 ft tall. The piece was commissioned from Luis Jiménez in 1992. The piece is officially known as Blue Mustang but has been nicknamed as Blucifer. Unfortunately Blucifer did not appear outside the airport until February 11th 2008, more than 15 years after it was first commissioned. While working on the completion of the piece, Luis died when a piece of the statue fell off in June of 2006 and pierced an artery in his leg. His studio had to complete the piece after his death. This led to people believing the sculpture was cursed, the bright blue colour and glowing red eyes did not help these suspicions. Original sketches of the piece had Jiménez toying with the idea of pink or even yellow before he ultimately settled on blue. It's claimed by his widow that he liked how the glowing red eyes, which are lit by flood lights, made the hair stand on his neck.
The link between the demonic looking mustang and the four horsemen of the apocalypse was drawn as a result. Each of the four horsemen represent a different aspect of the apocalypse.
Conquest. War. Famine. Death.
Blue mustang in people's opinion, represents the fourth horseman. Death.
Freemason Link
In The Jeppesen Terminal there is a not so hidden time capsule which is set to be opened by the people of Colorado in 2094. The time capsule is covered over by a capstone, marked by The Freemasons and dated March 19 1994. Other time capsules from The Freemasons have been known to contain stamps from the time period they were sealed, Masonic pins, flyers and bibles like in the one opened in Sioux Falls in 2019. The Freemasons have evolved over time and it is actually the longest running fraternity in the world. 13 of the 39 people who signed the American Constitution were members of The Freemason Organisation. Since the late 18th century, theories about the organisation were whispered about, mainly they fall under three categories: control of government, religion and cultural. The organisation have been linked to faking the Apollo moon landing, hiding the fact The Earth is actually flat from the public and that the leaders of The Freemasons are humanoid reptiles.
While The Freemasons planting a time capsule to be opened in nearly 100 years does not have any satanic or doomsday connotations, the placement of the time capsule at a location already shrouded in mystery and wonder just added to the hype. In reality, the time capsule probably contains a few pieces of memorabilia from the late 80's or early 90's.
Gargoyles
In the baggage claim area of the airport the hall has been fitted with gargoyle statues. The artist, Terry Allen, wanted to make the baggage claim area feel like a cathedral. When he was first asked to design art for the hall they held a meeting with people from the airport and art critics, for some reason, there was also a nun at this meeting and this became his inspiration. While gargoyles may have a sinister appearance they are placed on religious buildings and are seen as a symbol of protection. While gargoyles are never mentioned in the bible, they have been linked with religion and their appearance outside churches can be likened to the carved lion statues outside pyramids which were also used as symbols of protection at the time.
Nazis, New World Order and Illuminati
There are questions over who built Denver International Airport the most common belief among conspiracy theorists is that it was built by The New World Order with ties to Nazism. The most widely used piece of evidence to support this theory is that the runways at the airport vaguely have the same form as a swastika. The airport does credit an organisation called The New World Airport Commission on their dedication marker. However, when looking into this organisation, they do not exist.
Due to the massive overspend on the airport of $2 billion and the massive unused underground baggage tunnel people have speculated that the underground area contains the Illuminati headquarters.
Tunnels run underground at Denver International Airport and are used for carrying passenger luggage from one area to another. The idea is that because the airport was so high above the budgeted cost, when they were building the underground area, they also built secret bunkers. Meaning that in an apocalyptic event high, ranking members of The Illuminati or The New World Order would make their way to Denver International Airport and use these bunkers to survive until it was safe to resurface.
NORAD is also located 100 miles away from DIA and some have put forward the theory that secret tunnels run the 100 miles underground, linking the two locations. It is possible but while looking into this theory, I read about The Swiss Alps-transversing Gotthard Base Tunnel. The Gotthard Tunnel was built with the idea of making it easier to move freight and runs just over 35 miles in length, less than half the distance compared to the 100 miles between NORAD and DIA. It took 17 years to complete and cost roughly $12 billion. So while I don't want to ruin anybody conspiracy party, any conspiracy drawing a link bewteen NORAD and DIA, I have a slightly harder time getting on board with.
The Murals
Also in The Jeppesen lounge several large murals were hung, these were done by Leo Tanguma. The large mural show genuinely thought provoking scenes. The seem to depict struggles of humanity; war, famine, natural disasters and genocide. One of the murals "Children Of The World Dream Of Peace" shows a large rainbow in the back, sweeping into the front of the picture to somebody dressed in military style clothing cradling a gun. The rest of the photo is made up of a large group of people, from all different ethnic backgrounds, holding flags, instruments and one appears to be holding a machete style knife that presumably belongs to the fallen soldier. The artist explains that this mural represents humanity coming together to overcome the various struggles we face as a race.
While the murals themselves are amazing pieces of work, one would have to question the reasoning behind putting such serious and heavy pieces of artwork in an airport lounge.
Overall, The DIA conspiracy theory is one of my all time favourites.
The endless discussion boards with people's theories and thoughts have gotten me through many sleepless nights.
Denver International Airport have in recent times stopped trying to brush all the theories under the carpet and have instead simply embraced the whole idea of alien bunkers and UFO hot spot, even going as far as organising a whole campaign promoting the idea.
